In January 2007 I was approached by David Downey the owner of The Bank Restaurant and Night club in Newry N Ireland .
The smoking ban was about to impact the establishment and they were looking for a solution. David liked the African Pot House and wanted to know if they could be incorporated within the overall design of the beer garden.
So in February 2006 I visited the Pub and was asked to put forward a presentation on a redesign of the service yard to the rear of the pub , this being the only area available.
We developed several alternatives and finally got the approval for a scheme incorporating 3 African Pot Houses on the upper deck as a chill out area with some of our large pots and green man mural all planted out with lush plants .
African warriors outside each pot complete the transformation.
On the lower custom built deck there would be an informal seating area with a mixture of rustic feature seating and benching all under electric heat lamps where smokers could chill with friends and enjoy the surroundings .
The heated pot houses have been a huge success and have been used all over winter as a warm cosy place to chill out.
The Beer garden was opened by Shane Ward (winner of the X Factor) in September 2006
