We bought our medium sized pizza oven from Jay at Dingley Dell Enterprises last Spring. It was clear to us from the moment we met that he is a man of vision and unbridled, infectious enthusiasm.
Indoors we have a four oven, mains gas Aga Cooker which we turn off around June each year. From then on, we aim to cook outdoors on a barbecue, or indoors on a small electric hotplate. Most summers we have had to turn the Aga back on in order to bake decent bread or roast larger cuts of meat but since purchasing the wood fired oven we have been able to bake bread, roast meat, slow cook, turn out the most fantastic pizzas and flat breads and all without consuming any gas. Fantastic!
Parties for 20 - 30 people are not a problem and there is usually a queue of guests waiting to try their hand at turning and watching the pizzas. We aim to cook five or six at a time and they only take four or five minutes so everyone is able to eat together.
After a season of using the oven balanced on a pair of fireproof trestles, we decided to build it in and make a small outdoor kitchen. This has revolutionised spring and summer cooking. Our builder Simon was in contact with Jay during the build and we designed the oven to complement the house using some architectural salvage which we had saved from the main building. The end result can be seen in the pictures and has been a huge success. Jay was never less than helpful and supportive with advice on the build and friends and neighbours who have eaten with us outdoors are hoping to build in a Dingley Dell oven of their own this summer.
In short, this is an amazing thing to own. It's sociable, versatile, attractive, cooks brilliantly and most importantly of all,it's ecologically sound, runs on wood and encourages you to spend much more time outdoors. We are delighted with our pizza oven and have recommended Dingley Dell to all who have asked.
Thanks Jay
